Love Affair
I’m having a serious love affair with my new wheel.
I love that it’s small and portable. I spun in the backyard this week while H played in his sandbox. This beautiful stuff is merino/tencel from teh Zen String fiber club. This is only my third attempt at spinning on my new wheel and already I’m making even, consistent singles. Perhaps the learning curve won’t be as steep as I thought.
I made some sock yarn too:
This is suffolk wool and nylon, a very sturdy, rustic blend. I may finally knit a pair of handspun socks- just in time for the miserable heat wave we’re having.
But I haven’t just been spinning. Remember my loom? I finally got it warped and threaded and whipped up this funky little scarf. The warp is cascade 220 and the weft is some of my handspun. I forgot to measure it. It’s a little shorter than I like my scarves but it’s still a totally wearable length. I love the texture in it, and how the random bits and blobs of color POP against the turquoise.
I purposefully wove it loosely because I loved the pebbley look of the loose selvedge edges. I finished it by fulling it in hot, soapy water so everything plumped up a bit and fuzzed together. Mmmmm. I love it so much!
So that’s what I’ve been up to. What have you been up to?

Gorgeous gorgeous singles, and I am in love with the color and texture of that scarf! Also, wanted to tell you that I was inspired by your dishcloth post to ditch my sponges. I’m having fun knitting dishcloths for me!

Nice colors in that sock yarn! I’m finishing up overdue b-day gifts, worsened by the fact that I’m itching to cast on about 300 projects. Must get to work!!!!

BEAUTIFUL stuff… I covet your handspun yarns… truly. Someday, I too will have a wheel… Until then, I’ll dream about your beautiful yarns.
haha…
I have been writing a curriculum for addicts who are also sexual abuse survivors. Nothing near as cool as what you’ve been up to I’m afraid.
