Wonderful
Thank you for all of the pullover and shoe suggestions! I decided to go with the Wonderful Wallaby pattern. Adam knit a Wallaby for H. I had forgotten the name of the pattern. H wears his Wallaby a lot, even though it’s getting too small. I know if I make a new one it will get at least as much use as the one Adam knit. Look at my baby in that picture. That was 5 months ago. He was so little!!! Now he is a big boy who is OBSESSED with cars and trucks. That has to be an in-born thing. Last night he saw part of a commercial for some testosterone laden car chase movie and he stood up, yelled “YEAH!” and “WHOA!”, clapped his hands and made vroom-vroom sounds. Um… he’s definitely a boy.
Anyway, I was bummed that I couldn’t order the pattern as a download. I don’t mind paying for a good pattern, but I hate waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I ordered my copy from Paradise Fibers on Wednesday afternoon and it came the next day. Awesome! I’ve ordered things from them before and they always have great service. I am completely charmed with the pattern too. It comes as a little booklet with hand drawn illustrations. H loves the illustrations too. He carries the booklet around and hugs it. I’ve already cast on. I hope to make great progress this weekend.
Just when you thought I couldn’t possibly take on another fibery craft- I’ve discovered wet felting. I like it. Oh boy do I like it. It’s fun to be able to seriously abuse wool and have it turn into a beautiful work of art :). I’m going to start selling these. I’m really excited about the potential of these. You can make so many different things out of felt! You can cut them into shapes and make a garland. You can sew a needle roll. You can make coasters, baby clothes, little purses… you are only limited by your imagination.
Here’s a close up of one of my sheets. It’s made from merino and domestic wool top with silk noil carded in (the little flecks of color). The yellow wiggly lines on the top are strands of recycled sari silk. I love the texture silk adds to felt. If you guys are interested I’ll try to post a felting tutorial next week.
This weekend I’ll be helping out at the La Leche League booth at the Seattle Green Festival. I’ll be there from 9-1pm on Saturday, so if you’re planning on attending stop by and say hi! I’m helping set up tonight and I’m leaving H at home with daddy. I’m going to be gone 3 or 4 hours. I’ve never left him for that long before. Maybe I’m crazy, but I just can’t stand being separated from my baby for that long. It makes my heart ache. He’s in very good hands though, and I know he and daddy are going to have great fun. I hear they might watch a manly car chase movie.

My sister had a wonderful Wallaby that she wore constantly as a toddler. That was the one that pilled. She used to stick the pills on me to annoy me.
(I bet that one doesn’t pill.)

I remember when I left S for a longer period of time for the first time, I was so upset when I left the house. S had a great time and so did I, doing my own thing!
What a sweet boy you have!

Wow, that wet felting is seriously cool. I’d love a tutorial. (Once my broken finger heals I’m gonna delve into shibori and needlefelting.)
And your boys will be great together, so I hope you’ve enjoyed your morning!

Yea Georgia! You’re felting! Have fun at the Green fest. I wish I could be there to meet Amy Goodman (Democracy Now host) but I’m teaching classes all weekend.
H is cuter than ever!
