Friday Favorites CONTEST
It’s been a while since I’ve had a contest. Here’s the plan- I’m going to share 3 of my current favorite etsy shops with you. Leave a comment with one (or more) of your favorite etsy shops. I’ll pick someone at random on Sunday evening to win a prize.
So a few months ago Alice contacted me on etsy and asked if I wanted to swap yarn for art. I liked her work, so I agreed. I commissioned a portrait of my sweet Frogger. Alice was great to work with and emailed me pictures of her progress to make sure I was happy with everything. I am so happy with my Frogger portrait! I hung it above the rocking chair where I nurse H. He often points to the painting and smiles. It makes me smile too. Hopefully Alice will need more yarn soon, cause Bowie would like his portrait painted too. I hope you’ll visit her etsy shop, and if you want a pet portrait convo her about it. Tell her I sent you :).
I’m a little obsessed with batik right now. I found BatikWalla on etsy a while ago. If you could ever call a humble zip-up hoodie gorgeous, there are some gorgeous hoodies to be found in her shop. They come in toddler sizes too, so I had my mom get one for H for his birthday. He wears it all the time and we always get lots of compliments on it. I really want one for myself. Hm… maybe someone will read this and get me one for mother’s day.
Yep, more batik. I told you I was obsessed. I love everything in Margot Bianca’s shop, but so far I have shown great restraint and only purchased these two bandannas. My hair is a mess right now. I need to get it cut, plus the hair that fell out after H was born is growing back now so I have all of these weird short curls sticking up all over. These bandannas have been very useful for taming my hair, plus they’re really cute and stylish (you know, for a bandanna).
Those are my faves. Now you tell me yours!

Well, it’s not on Etsy so I’m probably disqualified. But I love the art of Dan Lacey: http://faithmouse.blogspot.com/
This guy has such a great sense of humor and is a very talented portrait artist to boot. He has done hundreds of paintings of celebrities with pancakes (and other applicable food items) on their heads. He certainly carved out a nice niche.
You know this, Georgia, but for your readers’ information I love Dan’s work so much that I bought the original painting of Obama with his “victory pie” on his head. The painting was featured in many major blogs, including one affiliated with the New York Times, the day after Obama won. It’s my own little piece of American history.
Here’s the painting: http://www.faithmouse.com/obama_victory_pie.jpg
Dan Lacey is awesome because he does what he loves, makes a decent enough living from it, and what he does is uniquely him. He’s a great guy.

I really like the project bags at stuckinillinois.etsy.com. They are so cute and free shipping! Plus, each bag is only ten dollars.
I also like Wee Ones (weeones.etsy.com) She does incredible work. I have several sets of her stitch markers and they never get caught on my project.

Hmm… So many Etsy favorites, but if I had to narrow it down, my top 3 would be:
Damsel in this Dress for her incredible, not-at-all-period, kinda steampunky corsets. Her work is lovely, and I just wish I could afford one…
Beth Cyr Jewelry because her handmade silver jewelry is light and airy and lovely. I bought some earrings from her for my mum and they quickly became favorites.
And R-F-X Studios for great jewelry, very well made. He worked with me to make a custom malachite set that I absolutely love.
And, well, can’t forget Y-aarrrr-n for yarn-y goodness with an eye patch *grin*
