Batty

So I went ahead and ordered a drum carder. It arrived on Monday afternoon.

I got a Strauch’s Finest carder. It’s the most money I’ve dropped for a piece of equipment for my business. It’s an excellent carder though, and I know it will hold up to my use (and abuse). And hey, I only have to sell like 40 batts to recoup my initial investment. So… wanna buy some batts?

Perhaps you would like a Pretty Pirate batt? This has hand dyed domestic wool, natural black shetland, faux cashmere (nylon), bits of novelty yarn, and black diamond (carbonized bamboo fiber).

Here’s one made with hand dyed wool top, superwash, alpaca, and a few wool locks.

This one is probably my favorite. It has natural black shetland, natural brown alpaca, hand dyed targhee, mohair locks, and a healthy dose of firestar. Nomnomnom. These batts and several of their friends will be part of a little shop update on Friday evening at 6pm Pacific time. I’m going to try to crank out a few more before the shop update. I’m having a blast. It’s so creative. It’s like making a fluffy, fluffy sculpture!

big basket and a silly smile

My baby is TALKING. IN ENGLISH (as opposed to Doglish). A few nights ago daddy asked H for a hug. He looked back and forth between mommy and daddy and then grinned at me and said “mama!” and crawled over to me. Then he stood up, gave me a big hug, and patted me on the back. My baby called me mama! On purpose.

His favorite word though is baby. Oh, how he loves talking about babies. Last week we were at the store and he pointed to a baby and said “Daybee!”. I thought it was a coincidence, but last night he pointed at his picture and said “Daybee!” again. Well. I’d say he’s pretty darn smart… for a daybee ;). If that weren’t enough, today he was playing with his soccer ball (which is the best $6 I’ve ever spent) and he yelled “ball, ball, ball!” Holy crap, the last year has flown by. I can’t believe how fast my little baby has grown.

  1. I hope I can get some batts! We’ll see how the money fairy is feeling that day. :/

I just love Mr. H. He’s gotten so big I can’t believe it! Are you knitting him some birthday longies, too?? I think he’ll fit into my largest size on the pattern just fine… my 3 year old does with room, just adjust the length of the leg! :)

  2. love love love the batts! Awaiting the shop update :)

  3. Um Jealous. . . I’ve been dreaming of a carder for a while now. I guess I’ll just have to buy some of your batts.

H is A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! Isn’t is amazing when they start to talk? JH first said mama in the middle of the night when we were trying to let him cry it out. Broke and melted my heart so I had to go get him and love him. He’s sneaky like that!! :)

  4. OMG! I totally cried reading that! I’m a little hormonal today, apparently! It’s so cool when your baby says mama!

  5. That is so adorable. We are still waiting for words over here. He babbles and will use mama or dada when he wants us, but no other words. I can’t wait to hear what is in his head. So exciting.

Those batts are beautiful. Makes me wish I had a spinning wheel (more than normal).

  6. Love the batts and H -with same wonderful pudgy cheeks and baby rolls that they all outgrow too fast!

  7. Now he needs to learn how to say Auntie!!

  8. What a sweet daybee! I love how they start out with their own language that only the parents can understand.

  9. tell me about it…Jack has quite the vocab…MaMa, DaDa, Baby, Ball, cracker, dog………of course they are not clear but I know what he is saying….

  10. He’ll be asking for the car keys before you know it. They really do grow up so fast.

  11. or asking you to get them a dam(jam) sandwitch.
