Late Night Knitting
Booty Club News:
Packages are shipping Tuesday, January 20th. I’m sorry they are going out a little late this month. Several things have changed in my routine since I sent out December’s packages and those things have been hard to adjust to. An extremely mobile baby, delays in getting my base yarns, and my sister and other slaves helpers have all moved on to other things. It’s been a crazy month.
Things are going to be easier next month though, because my awesome friend Amber is going to start babysitting H a couple of days a week. She has a sweet little boy about the same age, and they are going to come over to our house and play. I think H will have a blast. It makes me a little sad to be missing out on all of the fun, but honestly it will be soooooooo nice to have an uninterrupted stretch of time to work again. I will be able to dye yarn wIthout having to sing the ABC’s over and over to a grumpy baby on my back. It’s going to be GREAT!
More time to work means some fun new things for Yarn Pirate. I’m thinking of doing a Fiber of the Month Club. It will be on a smaller scale than the Booty Club, at least for a while. The fiber will be dyed in the same colors as whatever colorway I come up with for the Booty Club. I’m also thinking of getting a drum carder and making batts for spinning. I’d love to do a crazy batt of the month club too, at some point. I’ve also been thinking of a semi-solid yarn club. I’d love to hear if you are interested in any of these clubs (especially the batt club cause I really, really want an excuse to buy a drum carder).
Here’s a hat I whipped up in a few days. I have to do all of my knitting when H is sound asleep, so this was knit between 10pm-1am over a 2 day period. I’m becoming rather fond of late night knitting, all cozy in bed with a cup of tea and my baby snoring away beside me.
Details:
Pattern: It’s another Thorpe. My 3rd, thankyouverymuch. I can’t get enough of this pattern. I may never use another hat pattern again.
Yarn: My blue-ribbon winning Navajo 3-ply. It’s superwash corriedale. The fiber was dyed by Sarah Anderson of Great Balls of Fiber. She only does fiber shows, although I have been trying to convince her to open an etsy shop. This is my first time knitting with any of my prize-winning yarn. I’m glad I used it instead of hoarding it away. I did a damn fine job spinning that yarn. It was an absolute delight to knit with!
Needles: Size 7 Addis. See mods for details.
Mods: The pattern calls for a chunky weight yarn and size 9 needles. My handspun was closer to a light worsted. I went down to a size 7 and knit the medium size hoping to wind up with something that would fit a baby with a big melon. It came out just the right size.
I’ve got another crazy hat on the needles for my boy. This hat involves the loop stitch and some yellow and orange yarn. Teehee. It’s going to be so cute and SO ridiculous.

I would love to see a semi-solid. Sometimes self striping just doesn’t do a cable or other stitch pattern justice and I find it really hard to find nice semi-solid sock yarn!

Why indeed knit another (kind of) hat when little Thorpes look so adorabubble on Mr. H? Gosh! I can hardly stand the CUTENESS!

I would love to be in a club that alternated between stripes and semi-solids. Maybe even doing complimentary colors?
A girl can dream… I also need to email you my new address! Crap!

I’d love a fiber club! I wouldn’t mind the semi-solids being mixed in with the booty club offerings. Could you do a bundled rate for a yarn/fiber combo if you decide to it?

Semi-solid club - absolutely. Crazy batt - well, if I can help support the purchase of a drum carder in any way, I’d be glad to help (love me batts)

I’d be all over a fiber club- I’ve been hoping for one for about…two years! Hahaha. I would join (or try for a spot) for dyed fiber or batts.

You are so creative, I am sure ANY club would go over great!! I would like to see, since it is “wish” time, a crazy booty club- my FAV YP Booty Club has been Killer Bees and I am a huge fan of Culture Club- I am all about bright crazy sock yarn- semi-solids are too tame for me, but I do see the need for them for complicated patterns… you are the yarn goddess, so whatever you dream up will be PERFECT! And that hat and that baby are just scrumptous!
