It’s a major award…
We went to the fair over the weekend. H was chauffeured around in his stroller and saw lots of farm animals. There was even a petting zoo, although H seemed to think it was a hair pulling zoo. Just ask this poor goat:
I did pretty well at the fair this year. I won 10 ribbons!
I’m not sure what to do with all of my prize winning yarn. Should I keep it forever and display it with the ribbon? Should I sell it? Should I knit something with it? I mean… it’s only a ribbon from the fair. It’s not like it’s a gold medal or a lamp shaped like a leg or something. I really want to knit with a few of them!
I could always save my ribbons and make one of these quilts. If you click on this picture and make it big you can see someone wrote in black marker (in shaky grandma handwriting) what the ribbons were for, like “western shirts”. How freaking adorable is that?
Well, here are those longies I was hoping to have finished by now. As you can see, I’m not even close. I had to rip & re-knit them a size bigger. The little stinker grew out of them before I could even finish them. H is now wearing the EXTRA LARGE size of Picky Pants. Um… the pattern doesn’t go any bigger than that. Sigh. I’m going to have to get out my calculator and figure out how to size them up a bit. I know he’ll hang out at this size for a while, especially now that he’s on the verge of crawling, but he’s going to get bigger at some point. I also had to put in an elastic waistband because H is obsessed with drawstrings. I love how the elastic waistband looks. It takes a bit longer, but it’s well worth it.
My shop update is finally ready to go up! This one almost killed me. The yarn and roving took forever to dry, and every time I tried to skein yarn or braid roving I had a grumpy baby to contend with. But it’s done. Yay! I have lots of fun stuff. Roving, handspun, aran weight BFL (for longies!) and superwash merino sock yarn. The longies I’m working on for H are being knit from my new aran weight BFL, and that’s my new Halloween colorway too. The shop update will be at 12pm pacific time tomorrow- that’s September 4th.
I’m planning on working on those longies while watching Season 4 of The Office tonight. Lets hope this baby feels like going night-night when it’s time :).

My guy lost what little chub he had as soon as he became mobile. H may do the same! If not, maybe try using a bulkier yarn worked at a slightly larger gauge to knit the XL.

Like Annika’s little guy, mine also lost all his chub as soon as he started moving on his own—but he got taller, too. It’s a tough call. Congratulations on all those ribbons! I like the idea of the ribbon quilt (and it’ll free up the yarn for you to knit)!

Ten ribbons! That’s fantastic! Congratulations! Display them proudly!
I have my eye on that lovely yellow/gold roving. Will your update go into your Etsy store or your own store?

Congrats on the ribbons! I think you should knit up the stuff you love, take a picture of it with the ribbon before and after knitting it up and attach a little bobbin of the yarn to the ribbon for safe keeping. When you get enough ribbons, make that fabulous quilt!

I think you should make a quilt of your ribbons, maybe make a patchwork with the award winning yarn behind the ribbon?
H is growing up so fast! You do realize at next year’s fair he will likely be running around at top speed. Time to get out the running shoes to practice sprinting!

We took JH to his first fair last Monday. A giant pig snorted at him and made him cry. It was terribly difficult to comfort him while we were laughing our heads off.
Great job with everything at the fair!

Congrats! All that and you’ve got a little one to compete for your time. I was going to say he’ll lose some once he gets moving… (ditto Annika) He can’t lose all, that’s the charm of babies and pinchable cheeks
