Unbearably cute
I have enough finished baby socks to post a picture a day for the rest of the week. If I wanted to, that is. I finished these last night. These aren’t socks, if we’re being technical, but I say they count. They are the “Roll Top Bootees” from 50 Baby Bootees to Knit. I used a skein of Koigu that’s been in my stash for a while. The pattern itself was really easy, even with the dreaded seaming. It only took a couple of hours. I’m sure I’ll make another pair or two before H gets here.
Oh, and about “H”- I’m calling him that cause I can’t think of a good nickname. I’m sick of calling him “the baby” or “the fetus”. We call him by his name around here. For example “Ah! H is jumping up and down on my bladder AGAIN!”. I’m not going to disclose what H stands for yet, but I will tell you an amusing story. Right after learning I was pregnant, my MIL presented me with a list of her favorite baby names. I’ve been hearing about her favorite baby names for almost 9 years now. For the sake of being polite, cause I love my MIL, lets just say we do not have the same taste in what makes a respectable name for a child. Imagine my surprise when a name we loved showed up on her list. To give you a little taste of just what was on that list, one of the names was “Harley Quinn”. Yep.
Here’s a recent etsy purchase. I am so in love with this little guy. He’s an original creation by Ashley Anna Brown. Her hand sewn animals are so cute and whimsical. I think I might need a few more…

Oh yeah, Kevin Smith’s daughter is named Harley Quinn after the Batman villian who was in kahootz with the Joker.
Beautiful pick for those booties! I’ve got a skein a Koigu in a very similar color just waiting to become Saartje’s booties!

Do people ever sit down and think what these names really sound like? I went to college with Sandy Castle and Ivy Branch. My college roommate’s sister’s last name is BUD. Her MIL’s name is Rose…but she married into that one!

Cute booties! Harley Quinn… seriously? How literary
Not my taste either, but different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
My poor uncle ended up with the combination Dean Mark. We’re not even Danish, just Norwegian.

Well, there’s Agatha Christie’s Harley Quin; a friend of mine has two sons named Owen (A Prayer for Owen Meany) and Spencer (as in, For Hire)–their new half-brother is named Dashiell. We also know Darrell Carroll, Sheri Berry, Gwen Glenn, Gary Garrett–my kids all have nice respectable names, and so do the grandkids. It’s too important to be “funny” with!

I don’t have any issues with looking at cute baby socks and booties all week.
In high school I stood behind Kelly Green in PE two years running (alphabetical order.) Later I knew a woman who named her daughter Mandy after the song, but then also gave her the middle name Lynne after a grandmother. She never got why people told her that wasn’t a good combination.

I’m glad to hear you were able to (politely) dodge “Harley Quinn”!

I called my son “Thumper” while he was womb-bound. It fit.
