Whoa baby. It’s time for a contest.
My ultrasound is this Friday! Mr. Yarn Pirate and I are very excited. I thought it would be fun to have a “guess the sex” contest. First I want to reassure everyone that what is most important to us is that our baby is healthy. We don’t have a preference- we just want to be parents. We waited a long time to start a family. By the time the baby is here we will have been together for 9 years. Being parents is something we take very seriously.
I’m going to share various facts about this pregnancy to help you guess. I have no idea if these will be of any use to you, but here goes.
We didn’t try to increase the odds of having a boy or girl. Like I mentioned earlier, we just wanted a baby. There’s only one thing you need to do to get a baby…;)
This pregnancy has been very easy. I had a minimal amount of nausea for 2 weeks. I never threw up. I haven’t had any extreme exhaustion. I pretty much love being pregnant. I feel great- possibly better than I felt in my non-pregnant state.
The only real food cravings I’ve had are for sour fruits and sweet potatoes.
The ring test said it’s a girl.
That’s all I can think of. If you want to know anything else leave it in your comment and I will add it to this post. And now for your viewing enjoyment, a bump shot. I don’t do bare belly shots so don’t even ask. I’m 17 and 1/2 weeks in this shot. Keep in mind that I’m 6′2. I think it will be a while before I’m really sticking out.
I also have a bonus contest for you. I’m in a very contesty mood. See this picture?
These are my neighbors, the Lawnparkers. I mentioned before that they like to display assorted junk in their front yard. Well, a few days ago a very choice piece of junk showed up in their yard. Can you guess what it is? It’s framed by the front window of the red car (parked on the lawn). You have to be very specific with your guess. You can click the picture to make it bigger. The person who guesses exactly what that piece of junk is will win. If you want, I will try to sneak over there and steal it and mail it to you. Or I can send yarn.
Leave your guesses in the comments. Here are the rules: You can only guess once. Please guess either “boy” or “girl”. If the baby is being modest and we aren’t able to find out on Friday, all guesses will be saved until we find out. For the bonus contest, the first person to guess correctly wins. My first thought on the lawn ornament was a wooden clothes valet but when I enlarged it definately looks like a giant flip-flop. I tried doing a google for some research and I found interesting pages regarding giant flip flops about Havaianas’s 45th anniversary, Flip Flops on the side of buildings(Havaianas’ I believe) Flip Flop Friday in Ireland, and posts regarding John Kerry being a “flip-flopper”. I found another giant flip-flop for sale on ebay although it is not identical.
I’m going to guess that it’s a Havaianas flip flop possibly a store display of some kind.

Every girl pregnancy I’ve ever heard stories of has been horrible(especially my mother’s pregnancy with me, apparently). But maybe she’ll surprise you, who knows? Either way, I think it’s fabulous that you’re having a baby.
