Fabric Ho

My first fibery obsession was fabric.  It began when Mr. Yarn Pirate bought me a sewing machine for Christmas shortly after we were married.  I love to sew, but even more than sewing I love to stash fabric.  There’s something about the clean, cool feel of it, the patterns, the textures- the potential.  Most of my fabric lives in a cute vintage cabinet that belonged to Mr. Yarn Pirate’s grandma.

Last weekend I went on a stash enhancing road trip with Sarah.  We drove down to Portland to load up on fabric.  It was mostly for Sara’s business (she has a super cute etsy shop and ebay store) but I needed some fabric too.  As you can see, there was still a tiny bit of room in my cabinet.  Also, I have a feeling I will need lots of cute fabric in the months to come ;).

whoopsie...

My fabric purchases have been ironed and folded and tucked away in the cabinet (actually, i kinda crammed them in there).  Sarah has her fabric listed in her ebay store.  She bought some really fabulous stuff.  There was much “ooohing” and “aaahing” and maybe even a little drooling.  But not on the fabric.  She is having a fun little contest on her blog right now, and she’s giving away some of her fabulous fabric.  Won’t you pop over and play?  It’s a super easy contest.

I have been a spinning fool lately.  Here’s some stuff I spun last week:

Yarn Wench loveAlpaca and sari silk

Spunky Fiber

and here’s something I worked on this week.  I’m really proud of this one.  I combined two different stashed rovings (from Spunky Eclectic and Funky Carolina) into one fabulous yarn.  A match made in fiber heaven.

A Spunky-Funky combo

  1. The two rovings together look beautiful! You did a wonderful job!

  2. that cupcake fabric is great - and the doggies of course!!!

  3. Well, congratulations? (I think!) The fabric is cute.

I don’t think I’ll ever have the time to spin, but I just love the look of handspun. So pretty.

  4. Beautiful handspun! such great colors, though I can’t believe you spun all that in one week! You’re faster than I am by far!

  5. Love the fabrics, but why exactly are you going to need lots of cute fabrics in the months to come? Are you hinting at something? (Don’t you love how all your blog readers are always suspicious of you like this?) ;)

And your spinning is very top notch these days :)

  6. That cupcake fabric is awesome! I wish I knew how to sew!

I agree with everyone else when I ask what that hint meant. I could guess, but then I might get super excited about nothing.

  7. Congratulations!!!! I love your little cabinet. There is no way that my fabric would fit in their. I can send you some of my fabric stash if you would like some of it. And I like the progress with the spinning.

  8. Those two rovings were meant for eachother. Just perfect!

  9. Congratulations on your fabric acquisition and your upcoming need for cute fabric! I was wondering, what do you make with your handspun? It’s all really cool by the way.

  10. More fabric in the coming months - hmmmm - sounds like a 9 month production of some sort…………..maybe an additional shipmate? how cool for you!!!

  11. My hubby is going to kill you for pointing out new and easier ways for me to get cute fabric. And the yarn you spun is gorgeous. You’ll have to teach me how to do that some day. I really want to learn to spin. It seems like one of the most relaxing fibery things to do.

  12. Too bad I don’t sew…

As always, your handspun looks beautiful!

  13. Love, love, LOVE that rose colored yarn! I just bought some of your rain yarn. I’m going to use it as a prize for my helmet-liners for soldiers contest. Hopefully next month, I’ll be able to afford another skein for myself! How long will it be available?

  14. *drool*

  15. Congrats! (are you going to just leave is hangin?) I am the fabric ho type to just buy the whole blot. Yep that’s be at the store making the gal roll off the whole thing (cuz they don’t have a full one in the back)
    The spinning is WON-DER-FUL!

  16. Hey - I stash fabric like crazy too!! I rarely make anything out of it (no time now that I knit!) but I cannot resist new fabric :) Love your cute cabinet full!

  17. that’s 2 covert suggestions that you might be you-know-what — are we getting a bump photo soon? ;-) congrats if you are, but no pressure!

If you do any sewing projects, I am hoping you’ll post details about them, too. I’ve always been tempted to learn to sew, but haven’t gotten into (yet) because the initial $$ investment is so high for a sewing machine. But I could be tempted with blog visuals!

  18. Delightful pink handspun. You’ve become an awesome spinner in no time at all!

  19. What a lovely array of fabrics on display. I think all the yarns you show here are lovely, but the last one is just outstanding!

  20. Georgia, your yarn is beautiful! I especially like the first one and the last one. Your spinning is so even. :-) Good luck with the skein contest - that one’s a winner!

  21. You have some great fabrics. They all look so fun.

Love the 2 fibers into 1 yarn. They just belong together.

The other yarns are great. It is so much fun to spin up a roving then see what it becomes in the end.

  22. I think “Yarn Wench Love” and the “Funky Spunky” would make very cool sock (or sweater) colourways ;).

  23. hmmm…I’m still stuck on the “need” for cute fabric in the coming months. ;) hehe

  24. I totally understand about the fabric (and the cabinet is gorgeous, too), but I have to say, that is some beautiful handspun.

  25. hmmm, I wonder what your project could be!

    : )

  26. Oooohhhhh! Is that a 40-week project that you have underway?! If so, then congrats! As the mom of two, let me say that children will rock your world to its very core… but in a good way!

The handspun is super-spiffy! I am getting a wheel — it should be here on Wednesday! yeah! I hear there are even better things to discover on the Ever Darker Side of the fiber arts world!

  27. Oh. Mah. Gawd.
    Fabric with CUPCAKES!!!
