Mr. Roboto

Oh, 2 yr olds and their many obsessions. H’s skeleton obsession has been well documented here but he has added two new obsessions to the mix. Robots and monster trucks.

So I made him a robot doll for his birthday.

I got the pattern from Gulf Coast Cottage. She has lots of cute felt patterns! The doll was easy to put together, but time consuming because it’s all hand stitched. It took me about 3 weeks of sewing every evening to finish it. Evenings where I would fall asleep sewing because I’m a tired pregnant lady. I finished it in time for his birthday party though, and he was delighted.

When we got home from the party H immediately introduced “Wobot” to Keleton and Moo-Moo, his other two best buddies. When he plays with Wobot he makes him say “Bleep bleep blork”. Heeheehee.

I love making things for my sweet little boy.

The Freezer Stash

I’ve been stashing meals in the freezer for when the baby comes. The thought of running to the grocery store for a few items with a toddler and a newborn terrifies me. Getting TWO kids in and out of car seats? That’s going to take me all day.

So the crazy, pregnancy hormone soaked part of my brain has been telling me that if I cook enough stuff now I might not ever have to go to the store again. Luckily we have plenty of freezer space. Here’s what I’ve made so far:

1 meatloaf
at least a gallon of chicken & rice soup
1 macaroni & cheese
2 shepherd’s pies
2 lasagnas
1 loaf of honey whole wheat bread
2 loaves of apple-oatmeal bread

I have a few more things I want to make, like chili and some beef stew. I also need to make a big batch of granola bars. Have you ever made granola bars from scratch? Oh boy are they good! Sometimes it’s all I can get H to eat. (Here’s a link the recipes we like to use)

What are your favorite meals to make ahead and freeze? I need a few more ideas. We don’t have any food sensitivities or anything. We eat organic food and I like to make everything from scratch.

Time to Buckle Down

Things I need to knit* for the new baby:

a warm hat to wear those first couple weeks

a tie on hat for when we go for walks

a few more pairs of bootees

medium sized longies (H was in the medium size by the time he was 4 months old!)

Things I’m knitting instead:

a giant pair of toddler longies for H

a very fussy, girly lace baby cardigan. There’s a 50% chance I’ll wind up giving it away, too.

Weeks left until my due date:

SIX. SIX. Can you believe it?

* Technically I don’t need to knit anything for this baby. Hats? I knit ten of them when I was pregnant with H. Bootees? Don’t even get me started. I want to knit this baby his/her own special things, especially since we aren’t having any more babies after this. I’m going to miss knitting for my babies!

I do need the bigger longies though.
