Aaaaah, vacations. Why can’t they be just a little bit longer? We had a really nice, relaxing time. Central Washington is incredibly beautiful. I think we’ll add it to our list of places to build our dream home. I didn’t take a lot of pictures. I never do because our camera is so big and awkward to pack around. Maybe we need to get a little point and shoot one that will fit in the diaper bag.
Leavenworth was fun. They have a yarn store, Wooly Bully Yarns, that we visited on Friday. It was a very cute little shop and the owner was so friendly and helpful. They had a big display of hand knit dishcloths right at the front of the store, along with big galvanized steel buckets full of Sugar’n Cream yarn. It was like they read my mind! I’ve become obsessed with dishcloths lately. More on that later. I found a few colors of SnC I haven’t seen before so I had to buy them. I also got a pattern booklet with some cute slip stitch patterns.

We hit a few fruit stands (Central WA is known for it’s apples and cherries) and local bakeries. We visited Smallwood’s Harvest. They had an excellent petting farm with lots of friendly animals. I got donkey kisses! H was fascinated by the animals, especially the noisy rooster strutting around the farm. We couldn’t resist getting his picture taken behind one of those corny signs.

Here’s the view from the pool where we stayed. H went swimming, and although he didn’t much care for it he was very brave and put up with all kinds of nonsense in the pool. What he really enjoyed was nursing poolside, all bundled up in a fluffy towel. He got to spend lots of time with his grandma and grandpa which was fun for everyone.

With grandma and grandpa around I had lots of time to knit. I brought my Lizard Ridge along, but I wound up knitting nothing but dishcloths. I’ve got to build up my stash! I think I did a pretty good job. Nothing like a little instant gratification. I like to knit my dishcloths in sets using coordinating colors of yarn until I run out of yarn. I usually get 3-4 per set. I’m not all that in to being matchy or color coordinated, but I just can’t help myself with the dishcloths. They look so cute all folded up in the drawer in little coordinating sets. So in the brown/green set I’ve got a Breastfeeding Advocacy cloth, a Ballband cloth, and a Grandmother’s Favorite. Those are all free patterns! In the yellow/orange set I’ve got another Breastfeeding Advocacy cloth, and the other two are from my new booklet, Bright and Cheery Knit Dishcloths. I knit 4 out of the 6 pictured here while we were in Leavenworth. I had to include them all though, cause they’re so cute and matchy.

The cloth diapers worked great on vacation, but I’ll save diaper talk for my next post. I have a lot to say about cloth diapers and I think this post is long enough.
